Legends Sign Welch, Grimaldi & Sanchez

The LA Legends will be bolstered by the signing of three local players Aissa Sanchez (Legends FC), Lauryn Welch (Cal State Fullerton), and Niccole Grimaldi (Oklahoma State University). Aissa Sanchez receives the call up from the U16 Legends FC club team. After a scrimmage between her club team and W-League team, Coach Surrell was impressed with her play and invited Sanchez to join the roster for the upcoming road-trip. Welch was a 4-year starter at CSF, a three-time All-Big West Conference selection, and started all 73 games of her career prior to a season ending knee injury. Before becoming CSF’s Assistant Coach, Welch finished her playing career tied for seventh on the school’s all-time points list with 46 and tied for sixth with 17 goals.  Grimaldi is a three-time, first-team Academic All-Big 12 Conference selection, and started all 23 games for OSU during 2007.

Outlook:

The Whitecaps opened their season with a 2-2 tie versus the Ventura County Fusion. Having two W-League Championships (2004 & 2006) under their belt, they will definitely be looking to put points on the board.

US Womens National Team fans may notice a familiar face, as former National team player, Tiffany Milbrett plays for the Whitecaps. The Vancouver roster also includes several promising young stars on the team. Jodi-Ann Robinson, 19, plays for both the Canadian senior team and the U-20 squad. In 2006 she was the Canadian Youth Player of the Year. Midfielder Monica Lam-Feist is just 17 and in grade 11. Head Coach, Bob Birada has stated this former U1-17 national team captain is "the best player in the country in her age group."

Watch the Game:

This match will possibly be the only W-League match which will be streaming live on the web through the USL’s USL Live website at  http://usl.playonsports.tv/ . Fans can purchase a one match viewing pass for $6.
