U16 Player Aissa Sanchez Travels with W-League Team

On Tuesday afternoon, U16 player, Aissa Sanchez had two training sessions to attend: one for the W-League and one for her premier team. She will have a busy schedule this summer as she travels with the LA Legends to Vancouver and Seattle, and then on to Hawaii for Regionals with the U16s. The trip to Vancover will be Sanchez’s first trip out of the U.S., other than to Mexico.

Sanchez, who will be 17 in August, is the youngest player on the roster, and was both surprised and excited to receive the invitation for the upcoming W-League trip. She is most looking forward to "the experience, and having fun at a different level."

After her first training session with the team, she noted the difference in in speed of play and attitude.  "The play is quicker, and there’s less time to talk," remarks Sanchez, adding "its more soccer... the attitude is different... more professional."

The LA Legends and the Legends FC U16 Premier team recently faced off in a scrimmage where Sanchez " showed well," says LA Legends coach, Jason Surrell. He believes she is athletic enough to compete at the higher level. "She’s got a lot of pace, good energy ... we are looking for her to create some things offensively," says Surrell, who has watched her play over the past year.

Sanchez, who will graduate from Glendora High School this fall, has been with the Legends FC (GFC) program "since it started," at age U11. She is definitely interested in playing college soccer and has a top-five list of schools she’s interested in. "I want to try playing at division I," she says.

Keep an eye on the field for Sanchez. Look for the red cleats.
